February 6, 2009 - The New England Riptide announced today that the team will take the 2009 season off, in preparation to return to play in 2010. Riptide management cites economic factors in the decision to sit the year out, and plans to work toward developing a larger fan base and reorganizing its structure.
The New England Riptide has played in Lowell for five years, and won the national Cowles Cup championship in 2006. Coaches for the Riptide have included the legendary Ralph Raymond, gold medal winning Olympic coach in 1996 and 2000, as well as Sharon Drysdale, 25-year veteran coach at Northwestern University.
The New England Riptide thanks its loyal fans and sponsors, and the city of Lowell, for their support, and will keep the public updated on its on-going plans through the team website www.neriptide.com.
